Ok, so we are moving along on our journey to Financial Freedom with Dave Ramsey and our Financial Peace University classes. This week we were challenged to write down all of our income and “spend” every penny of it on paper. We need to use our monthly cash flow chart to know where we want all of our income to go. There are set categories such as saving, giving, household items, clothing etc. We took R’s income (1) and my income (1) and have it = Zero. It is a Zero Balanced Budget.
Dave Ramsey says we need to get away from plastic and get back to good ol cash. He recommends using the cash envelope system. I thought it would be fun to make my own envelopes.
So I got out my scrapbooking papers and made fun and fancy envelopes for each of our categories. Inside each envelope is a registry that helps us track every penny. We are very excited about this new challenge. We even got our kids excited about their own cash envelopes. Saving, Spending & Giving. They each picked out their own papers and made their own envelopes. Family fun on a Sunday.
Each step we take on this journey is filled with all sorts of emotion. Fear, excitement, anxiety, empowerment, motivation, and more. Robert is surprised by how emotional this process is for me. I feel like I am learning a whole new language. A whole new way of living.

Just found out that our local radio station has a Dave Ramsey show in the afternoon… I’m going to try to tune in ๐

Used to use the ‘cash envelope” plan too until one day the house got broken into and burglerized. Decided that wasn’t the best plan for us. Now I use plastic for everything and once a week write a check for that weeks spending. When the monthly statement comes in I have 4 checks already written, the money has already been allocated out of the account and the bill is paid in full. Some months it’s more ‘painful’ than others ๐
