When I first heard about Facebook, I didn’t understand what it was about. I only “joined” because I wanted to see my friend’s profile and to do that you have to be a member. So began the whirlwind addiction.
I guess I have been on FB since September of ’08. When I first started looking around I saw many of my old high school friends had accounts and we became “friends”. I noticed that some people had loads of friends and others had hand-fulls. I thought, well, if I get 10 friends that would be nice.
Little did I know the ripple effect would soon take me well beyond 10 friends. At first, I mostly got reunited with high school buddies, then I found some of my favorite cousins on FB, and then I found some college buddies and next thing I know I hit 100 friends. Wow. Really?
Is it just me, or do you ever wonder who would show up at your funeral? Is that weird? lol Anyways, my point is this…I know some people think FB is dangerous or a big time waster (possibly true on this point), or even some silly pop culture thing… BUT, I would have to disagree. Because of this latest social connection fad, I have been able to reconnect with some of the most amazing people who I have met along my life path.
When I got to 200 I started wondering how I knew so many people. Where did all of these “friends” come from? So here in a nutshell is a list of my communities I’ve traveled through: Woodridge Il, Panzarella, Buffardi, Downers Grove HS, Marquette U, JVC, McCracken, CIS, MOMS, Garden Oaks, Montgomery, Klein, FPC, NPC. Then there are all the roles I play such as daughter, sister, wife, mom, in-law, aunt, cousin, friend, co-worker, school mate, niece, student.
I am fortunate to have made “friends” all along my walk. Now a social outlet like FB allows me to connect up via short posts, photos, comments and super poking! I have thoroughly enjoyed my FB community and continuously look forward to finding more “friends”.
Take a look at the paths you’ve traveled through your life, are there people who you would like to reconnect with? I promise there are many people who love you and have wondered where you’ve been. If you haven’t already tried out the wild world of FB, I say jump on in. And know, that you have one friend already waiting for you.
