Growing up Catholic, I remember always trying to come up with something I could “give up” for Lent. Then as I got older, I decided to “add” something special. This year, however, I decided to really challenge myself…In a couple of different ways. First, I am giving up diet coke!!! ๐ I have stumbled upon so many articles lately talking about how bad DC is for you (I know, I know…everything’s bad for you these days), but I really love my ONE diet coke a day. It’s sort of my treat. However, I have a terrible brain fog, and thought maybe this will help clear my mind…
My second Lenten challenge is putting away the scale. I weigh myself every morning and sometimes in the night. I don’t know why I weigh myself, because then I just get frustrated, depressed and angry. So I decided to “treat” myself to 6 weeks of NO weighing. Our speaker this weekend at our women’s retreat, Kathleen Davies www.joyinthechaos.com told us how statistics say 97% of women wake up and have negative thoughts about their bodies before they even get to breakfast! 97%!!! She also said that women spend over 300 words a MINUTE thinking. That’s a LOT of self talking. And, let me tell you I have a lot more than 300 words a minute when I step on that scale!!! ugh! not a good way to start my day.
So, my Lenten promise to myself is clear the brain fog by not drinking diet cokes and clear some of the chatter in my head each morning by not stepping on the scale.
My final Lenten promise is to pick ONE WORD to focus on each week. So tomorrow, as Lent begins, I’ll post my first word and my thoughts on it.
