Today I was on a walk with my sweet dog. I like to let her off the leash when I can so she can run and chase squirrels and let her hair down. Today as she was running and feeling care free I was caught up in a lot of heavy thinking. I had my head down and was walking and thinking and thinking and walking, when I heard a bird. A beautiful bird singing to me. I looked up and saw the sun shining through the trees. The light was so perfect streaming down. I saw a red red red cardinal fly past me and I heard lots of other birds singing their song. I stopped right there on my walk and closed my eyes and felt the sun on my face. I smiled. I opened my eyes and just stood there for a moment. Feeling tiny in the big world.
I actually stood there and laughed for a moment. My heavy thinking was gone in a poof. I thought how funny it was that I was in this intense thinking mode until the little birdie called for me to look up. I looked all around me and enjoyed being such a small part of this whole big world. I realized that my thoughts could take a break because I wanted to just be. Just be right here watching my dog run with the wind blowing through her coat. She looked at me and I thought “is she actually smiling too?”
How often do you stop to let the little birdies sing to you. Stop and be present. Enjoy the moment. Look around right now and ask yourself, what do I have to smile about? I know the birds are singing around you too!
