I remember once reading that synchronicity is God saying “don’t give up”. I love that thought. I also love finding synchronicity in my life. Last night we took our first step to financial freedom. As I mentioned in my last blog, we are enrolled in a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University at my church. After having great discussion with my husband and our sitting down and really making sure we are both on the same page, I felt good. Fast forward a couple of hours…
Everyone in the house is asleep and I am playing around on my ipod touch checking emails. The email that caught my eye was my Cheryl Richardson weekly email. I don’t always open these up, but last night I did. Guess what the theme of the email was…taking risks! Building your courage muscles!
How synchronistic! I think the interesting thing is that although this series of blogs may be talking about our journey to financial freedom, the truth of the matter is, this series will be about CHANGE. And what is more needed than courage when it comes to changing. Today my friend and I were talking and she said she had this big aha moment this weekend and told her kids they are going to start doing things differently. I told her I was on the same journey only different topic. I too say things are going to be different. Then we discussed how contradictory it is to stay in your comfort zone – because it’s familiar…and although you may find comfort in that familiar place, it still stresses you out and makes you miserable… so what is needed??? Courage!!! courage to do the hard things, the different things, the not easy things.
I was thankful for Cheryl Richardson’s email because it reminded me… don’t give up! She says
Choose one risk you’ve wanted to take for a while and just do it. Don’t over plan, over think, or over analyze the process. Just take the risk for the sake of risk taking. When it comes to doing something scary, the end result is less important than doing what it takes to develop the courage muscles that will serve you in all areas of your life.
It seems like making change is all about our choices…guess what I found posted on my facebook by my friend Kathryn Lee -” First we make our choice, then our choices make us. What are you choosing today?”
Another synchronistic clue…Yes, I am on the right path. I am choosing strength, I am choosing movement. I do not want to look back four years from now and be in the same place! I want change. I am ready.
Today’s first step was to sit down and really look at all of our income and expenses. I wrote down absolutely everything I could find that is an expense. Before I began I prayed for courage. I prayed for kindness and I prayed for strength. Then I began. I am pleased to say, that once I really saw it in black and white, I felt relieved. I felt like this is doable. We are not lost! It was very empowering. This journey feels empowering. I am ready to build my courage muscles. I am ready to make choices that will move me forward.
Each day I will try to do one small thing that moves me in the right direction. Whether it’s something physical, mental, spiritual, or whatever. I will keep this on my front burner. I will remind myself why I am doing this. I will create a new comfort zone. One that allows me comfort and peace. I am already changing. It’s a happening! And I know that God will continue to remind me “don’t give up!”
