In January of this year I started drinking coffee. I have NEVER had even one single cup in my life until January 17th, 2012. Short story is (b/c that’s not really the point of this blog J ) that I needed the caffeine b/c I gave up all diet soda and diet powder drinks.
So now every morning I brew myself a cup of coffee. First I notice the smell when I open my canister. It’s so rich and aromatic and I love it. (I’ve always loved the way coffee smelled!!!). Next I fill up the water canister thingy, and finally I grab my fresh, clean, sterilized, brand new, super white coffee filter and scoop two heaping scoops of coffee into it.
Fast forward to today when I was driving home from dropping my daughter at school, I started thinking about how in our daily lives we too use a filter. I have always talked about using a JOY filter, and as you go throughout your days, ask yourself, does this bring me/my family JOY… if not, then filter that activity/person, item out!
Then I started thinking about some women I know who filter their lives differently. One filters everything through guilt. Another filters everything through self-doubt. Another filters everything through negativism. Bleck!!!
This is what got me thinking today. Remember the episode in Seinfeld, when George decided to do THE OPPOSITE of everything he thought, b/c what he normally did, never really worked out that great for him? He changed his filter>>> He found love, he got a dream job, he scored the amazing apartment… the good just kept on coming!
What kind of filter do YOU use? Is yours filled with the past, like a used coffee filter? You wouldn’t keep using that tainted, dirty, used up filter day after day! Each morning you start with a brand new, clean, ready for the day filter. And because of that you brew wonderful, delicious, fresh, fulfilling coffee.
Are you using old filters in your life? Maybe someone else put their filter into your life? Old messages from family? Or a previous boss?
What if you decided to change your filter? What if you decided to filter your life the opposite like George did? What if your filter was GRATITITUDE???? Or JOY???? Or SELF LOVE???
Wouldn’t that just fill your cup to overflowing? I challenge you today, carefully look at your filter, and decide if it’s really the “flavor” you want… change it and start filling your life with all that is waiting for you!
