How lucky am I?
“Ikigai” is a concept that combines the Japanese terms iki, meaning “alive” or “life,” and gai, meaning “benefit” or “worth.” When combined, these terms mean that which gives your life worth, meaning, or purpose. Ikigai is similar to the French term “raison d’etre” or “reason for being”. Now that I am in my 50s it gives me so much pleasure to know that I have been able to find work doing something that I love, something the world needs, something I’m good at and something I can get paid for. Ikigai.
I am so grateful that I have found my Ikigai as a professor at Lone Star College!
Take some time to reflect on what it is that YOU love to do. Make a list.
Reflect on what you are good at. Make another list.
Then start looking for a way to tie it all together. Set the intention. Believe in change. DO the work. Research, ask questions, share your dream with others. Put it out there. Work towards finding your Ikigai.
