I didn’t even have to think what today’s blog would be about, it totally came to me! Before I tell you, let me recap the lessons I learned for this weeks blogging. In a nutshell, my lessons have been:
1. Be a connector with a smile! It’s the simplest way to help put people at ease.
2. Let the youth shine by giving them opportunities to serve and lead!
3. Making new friends is a blessing and so much fun!
4. volunteers make the world go round. To easily lift your spirit, do something good for someone else.
Today’s lesson I learned is that positive leaders put the winds in the sails to keep the ship moving forward. The leader over the whole program is our children’s director Michelle. She was overwhelmingly supported by our summer intern Amanda, and our amazing volunteer Kristen. These three have been fiercely planning, working, planning, working, and planning for a great 2010 VBS. And the amazing thing is, that the ENTIRE time they have been pouring over the details, they have done it with laughter, joy and kindness. I have been inspired by their positive attitude!
What this has done is dripped over to the next level of leadership, and our amazing pre-school leaders, Kortni & Tami who continued the pattern of positive leadership. They too have been working, planning, working , planning and working to make sure our wee ones had a fabulous VBS experience. The details involved in setting up this program are immense, but you would never know it because this team of leaders seem to pull it off so effortlessly. The positive leadership style from these 5 ladies dripped even further down the line. Because of their strong leadership, grace filled hearts, attention to detail and most importantly their positive attitudes, the overall sense of VBS was a fun, exciting (and my favorite) Joy filled week!
I am sure there were frustrations, bumps in the road, fears about pulling it off and more, but these women led the crew with ease. The whole program flowed smoothly. At any given time this week this leadership team was approachable and had the spirit of “what do you need?” They greeted each issue as an opportunity and chose to be positive!
The bottom line is we always have a choice about our attitude and how we not only get things done, but how we choose to see it along the way. I know I would much rather follow a leader that has a good attitude, who is approachable and who is positive example of Christ’s love. Big kudos to our 2010 VBS leadership team! You have been a God sighting to so many this week!
