I am not a perfectionist! Anyone who knows me knows that. I’m the “get it done” girl, not the “keep working at it till it’s perfect” girl. I mean, c’mon people, even God after creating the world said “…and it was good”. Today, however, I must say was one of those rare but awesome days when I can honestly say, it was a near-perfect day.
We are on our spring break this week. We decided to hang out here in Spring since we are planning a big trip this summer. Monday & Tuesday I worked longer days so that I can enjoy the second half of the week with my family. Also, this gave my husband some qt (quality time) with the kids. They had a great couple of days – going to the park, playing baseball, basketball, going to the library and more.
Yesterday we did something Robert has been wanting to do since I met him. We did the ol‘ boat tour of the Port of Houston. We drove down to the east side of town and took a 90 minute tour of the port. I must say, surprisingly, I enjoyed myself. Anytime I can have the wind blowing through my hair, I am happy. Also, truth be told, I am a water person, so even though it was port water, I enjoyed the tour. The kids liked it fine, and I think Robert enjoyed his tour. When we finished there we headed to the Discovery Green Park downtown Houston, parked the car, grabbed the baseball and mitts and headed out. Madi & I took the time to take all sorts of fun photos while father & son played ball. Great day for sure!
We ended our day with a jaunt to an old fave, The Spaghetti Warehouse. R & I made a compromise to stop for yummy dessert later if they would agree to SW for dinner. After our bellies were full we headed back north and made one last stop for dessert. This was certainly a good day. However, being that M & I were out late at the Houston Rodeo the night before, a shadow of exhaustion loomed over me all day.
Fast forward to today! I woke up with a refreshed attitude and a rested soul. I immediately got dressed and J & I took Lucy for a fun walk. Then I checked in with my daily phone buddy and enjoyed great conversation. Soon the troops were rumbling wanting breakfast, so I pulled out the honeycomb, and voila’ breakfast was served. Next the kids and I watched an oldie but a goodie, The Black Stallion. I was so excited to share this movie with them, as it is one of my all time faves. They loved it too! Next I checked in with another favorite girlfriend and visited for a while. Now it was lunch time, and I was ahead of the game, b/c yesterday I made delicious turkey sloppy jo for today. We ate a yummy lunch. The original plans for the day included a dollar movie and bowling, but after lunch, we were all enjoying family time in our pj’s so we postponed it all until tomorrow.
Meanwhile the rains were coming down and the latest cold front blew in. We added socks to our jammie outfits and pulled out the Wii for a family fit tournament. R is all proud of himself as he is in the #1 spot on all balance games. Jack & I keep trying to knock him down, but no luck yet. We had lots of laughs trying and took turns playing all sort of wii fit games. Next we pulled out a puzzle (my friend H gave me, it is a basket of yarn with a knitted scarf-super cute). While R, J & I worked on that, M made homemade brownies by herself!
Dinner time… normally my worst part of the day, but today on my near perfect day, M sliced up the zucchini & red potatoes for the sauteing, R threw the ribs on the grill, J set the table. As we were eating dinner, J asked us all to say what we learned today. We were cracking ourselves up with silly things we learned… i.e. R “I learned I could beat J on the penguin game and the soccer head butting”… J “I learned that Daddy likes to brag”… lol fun
To top off our great day, M & J have had so much fun together. Lots of creative play and tons of laughter, especially when J fit 29 socks on his foot! He is determined to get in the Guinness Book of Records yet. M tried putting on all of her undies, but gave up after pair 11! funny funny.
Throughout the day, all 4 of us and our 2 beloved pets (did I mention Larry the hamster passed last week?) Zoey & Lucy have spent the day in the same room…together…near perfection for sure.
I am grateful for this day when we were able to slow down the merry-go-round and have a “stay”cation with my family. Vacations aren’t always the best place to find each other. Today, I found God amongst us. We are a lucky bunch! Near perfection for sure!!!
