Here we are at the end again. The end of one year and just moments before the new. It’s time to turn over that new calendar and see a beautiful blank slate. I love new beginnings. I love the idea of possibility. I love the “what if’s” that a new beginning bring…
What if…this is the best year yet. What if…I finally do it. What if…I can…What if…
Oh the excitement of possibility! So how do you start the new year off right? I did some research to make it easier for you to. And so I wrap up this years You Got Joy blog with some suggested rituals to insure a clean, fresh start.
- Contemplate the patterns in your life that keep you stuck. Write down the limiting beliefs or habits that you wish to leave behind with the old year. In a fireproof bowl or fireplace, safely burn the paper. As the paper burns, be aware that you have just made space for new ideas people, and opportunities to enter your life. Carefully, throw out the ashes when they cool.
- Light a candle for those who have passed on.
- Light a candle for your new potential in the coming year.
- Light a candle and share your vision for the year.
- Light a candle for peace and healing.
- Dance, sing and celebrate life.
- Forgive, forgive, forgive- end the old year by opening your heart to yourself and others.
- Set off firecrackers at midnight to send out the old year and welcome the new year.
- Open every door & window at midnight to let go of the old year
For good luck in the coming year…
- throw money into the house the first time that they enter after the New Year has begun. If you are staying home, go to your front door at 12:01 am and throw coins into the front door. Keep them there for 24 hours and then give them away to the needy.
- At midnight, quickly eat 12 grapes, one at each stroke of the clock. Each one signifies good luck for one month of the coming year. (Spain)
- Stand on a chair and jump off at midnight to banish good spirits and bring good luck. (Denmark)
- Round shapes, which represent coins, symbolize prosperity. Put heaps of round fruits on your dining table. Eat precisely a dozen fruits at midnight. (Phillipines)
Try one of these ideas or many. Tonight when you go to sleep say goodbye and thank you to 2010 and when you wake up tomorrow, say hello and welcome 2011 and all that it holds ahead for you… I wish you a very JOY filled NEW year. Be blessed and bless others!
