If you have ever watched a house being built, or if you have ever had an addition put onto an existing house, you know that the standard method of communication is a big piece of paper called a blueprint…On a blueprint you have many layers: electrical, plumbing, elevation, framing etc. It’s a great place to see what you have laid out before you on paper. Let’s take that idea and create a Blessings Blueprint. { If you did our challenge last year, you may recall this one. I usually open all coaching sessions with this, and feel like it never can be done enough}
This week your challenge is to create your own Blueprint of Blessings. I want you to list a minimum of 25 things you are grateful for ~ but aim for 50! I want you to create this list somewhere that is available to you regularly: your iphone, blackberry, computer, nightstand table etc. Take a few minutes to quiet your mind then start the counting.
On this list, spend about 5 minutes just freethinking of things you are grateful for and write them down. Big things and little things. People, places and things you are grateful for. Don’t edit yourself; just keep writing for a full 5 minutes. Fill the page if you can. Nothing is too small or too large. Where do your blessings come from? What are you most grateful for – i.e. not having to shave legs every day in winter…(a favorite of mine! ha) or being grateful for cherries on the top of a sundae because it’s so cheerful…like I said, don’t edit yourself ~just write. Think of the many different “layers” of your life blueprint…
Once you have completed your Blueprint, continue the rest of the week with this second half of our challenge.
I once read that if you write down 5 things we are grateful for every day, in 2 months your life will be completely changed! Really??? Well then, I guess this is the perfect part two of our first challenge. This second half of your first challenge is to write down 5 things you are grateful for EVERY day! What??? EVERY DAY??? Yes!!! EVERY DAY! Why are we repeating this challenge? Because if we operate out of abundance and gratitude, life will continue to multiply those blessings in our lives and deplete our stress.
Now, I understand that sometimes there are days when the only thing you are grateful for is “that the day is over”…How can you add 4 more items to this list on those days??? By having this Blueprint of Blessings, you now have a place to go and see that there are always many things in your life that you can be thankful for. It will always be there for you on the days you need it. On the days you don’t need it, simply list 5 items from that day.
So remember, each day for the following week, somewhere, at sometime, write down 5 things you are grateful for. enJOY your week!
Share some of your gratitude with us…what are you grateFULL for today?
