This week your challenge is to connect via TOUCH. This can be accomplished in many ways.
Recently when dealing with a client who suffers from terrible anxiety I found this “trick” that was suggested to help ground you and shake you out of an anxious moment. The tip said you should find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can TOUCH, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. These sensory check-ins can help you when you feel you have lost all control of your surroundings and help ground you.
So this week I want you to connect to your life via touch. Here are some examples…Daily I want you to try to:
- Hug someone you love.
- High five someone
- Pet your sweet dog, cat, hamster etc
- Pat someone on the back. Touch someone’s shoulder. Hold someone’s hand.
Researchers say touch can trigger the release of oxytocin, a chemical that induces trust. It can also light up the brain’s reward centers. From lowering blood pressure and heart rate to increasing immune function and relieving pain, getting touched or doing some touching makes you healthier — not to mention happier and less anxious.
Slow down and snuggle more. Stop the hurry and hug longer. Hold off the chaos and hold hands a bit longer… watch your life change from stressed to blessed…
