Ohhh, I’m a bit nervous! That’s funny, because I actually LOVE to talk, I just get nervous to write. As a matter of fact, I am a public speaker and the bigger the crowd the better, so why would I be nervous to write on a blog? I mean, come on, I love doing my somewhat regular e-newsletter, so it’s not like I don’t write.. Anyways, here I go. My friend inspired me to try a blog, so I will give it a go.
My plan is to keep this a JOYFUL spot for blogging. I will be sharing JOYFUL insights, tools, observations, and stories and I hope you will do the same.
Blogging 101: Yeah, but…
I want to share a story with you. I was married on a record breaking heatwave August 12, 1995 in Naperville, Il. Four months later was our first New Years Eve as a couple and we were so excited to start the New Year together. We had a delicious dinner, then headed over to some friends house who lived in the Heights (Texas). We were so full from dinner that we didn’t even have but maybe one drink at the party. Around 11:30 p.m. we decided to head “home” (about 25 blocks) to ring in the new year together.
As we were heading north on Heights Blvd, I remember saying drive carefully, b/c this is a dangerous night to be on the road, and not even 2 minutes later WHAM, BAM SCREECH. We were hit by a drunk driver. Smack dab into my husband! Our car swung around and smashed into a light pole… Glass. Blood. FEAR…
CALM…
Ok, terrible right???? Yeah, but would you believe, there just happened to be an ambulance and fire truck at a FALSE alarm, two blocks away, who heard our accident and were on the scene in minutes!!!
We spent the new years in Ben Taub Trauma center! We were THE only sober ones in the room! Oh, did I mention that the man next to me had an “accident” in his pants (#2!!!). Terrible and stinky, yes??? Yeah, but would you believe, I realized one of the trauma nurses was a parent at the inner city school program I ran, and she took that man to the other side of the room and made sure we were comfortable!!!
We needed to spend the next 6 weeks at home recovering. Robert broke his shoulder blade! Everyone who witnessed the accident (emergency workers, tow truck guy, damaged car lot guy) said he should have been killed!!! Yeah, but God disagreed and kept my love here with me!!!!
We had our in laws move in with us to take care of us!!! Weird for newly weds right?? Yeah, but they were amazing! Great cooks, lots of fun, lots of card games and lots of laughs together.
I guess my point of this super shortened version of this horrible moment in my life is, that even during the terrible storms, there is always a Yeah, but… to look for. JOY is always around us! Always. So take a look and find your but… I can promise you have one!!! ha ha no pun intended!!!
And, that’s a wrap!
