Too. Much. Stuff. Too. Many. Decisions. This weeks challenge is quite possibly one of my favorites! It’s time to simplify. Don’t panic! I’ll start you off easy. Before I give you your official challenge, let me give you some background. This month at our MOMents Group at Northwoods Presbyterian Church, we had a professional organizer come speak to us. Helen Schutz, www.hbsorganizing.com did a great job motivating us with her top 10 organizing products. Then she said something that I think I’ll remember forever. She said something to the fact that “Clutter = not making a decision”. Oh My Goodness. How true. How true. How true…look below. Every day I get in the shower and I have to decide… olay? mary kay? garnier? now time for shampoo…pantene? nexxus? and soap…mango peach? lemon? mint? goodness gracious! So much Clutter!!! So many decisions!
Seriously! Now, I also want you to see how my husband does it. Why is it that men have it so easy? Hardly any thought. He gets in the shower and BAM, one bar of soap and one bottle that combines shampoo and conditioner!!! Talk about easy. Talk about simple. Talk about not having to think.
Peter Walsh – Oprah’s organizing guy, says we should honor our stuff. He also says we have too much stuff. You know what? I agree! And stuff = clutter=mess=unhappy mom! Soooooo, this week I challenge you to pick one spot in your house, garage, office to tackle. I challenge you to spend some time in that one place. Go through the clutter. Decide what stays, what goes. Ask yourself do I need this? do I love this? Enjoy the process.
I actually already tackled one spot (which is why this challenge is late getting posted, I was knee deep in clutter). I cleared out the underneath of my bathroom cabinet. I emptied all the old shampoos, conditioners, lotions and recycled the many containers. I put all of my nail polish and supplies in a cute basket. I went through all of our headbands and donated a good dozen. I put the remainder oh-so cute ones in a basket. I donated like 10 free clinique makeup bags! Threw away funky old things that somehow ended up here…Then I opened up my makeup drawer and made peace with my makeup. Seriously, I only use 10 % of what was in that drawer. I then emptied out the trash basket and left the room. I can’t wait until tomorrow morning when I sit down to get ready. Everything that I need will be waiting for me. No more clutter. No more mega-mini decisions needing to be made before my morning coffee ( well, I don’t actually drink coffee, but you get the idea).
So, again, to end the chatter of this challenge. Pick an area. One area. Start small. Then list it on our challenge page wall! Share with us where you plan to start.
Remember Newton’s First Law ~ An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction. So get in motion. Start small. Pick one spot and GO! Good Luck.
